Sports News

The 6th Form football team travelled to Trinity on Wednesday night for their league match. The match started badly and got worse with AV eventually going in at half time 4-1 down. After a half time rearrange we went back out with a renewed purpose and immediately went on the attack and scored a quick goal. We battled back with two goals from Chris Bryant, one from Karl Bryant and one from Jordan Banner to go into the last 5 minutes 5-4 down. Unfortunately we could not force the equaliser and eventually lost 5-4. Man of the match was Tom Wheatcroft who worked incredibly hard all game.

The Boys should be congratulated on their second half performance.

Training every Thursday.

Following on from the success of the Sports Leadership Awards delivered at Arrow Vale the Foreign Language Leaders Award (FLLA) has been launched by Miss Noble and Miss Barber with a group of Year 10 GCSE French students. The Award teaches students how to plan and deliver short lessons, builds teamwork and confidence and provides an exciting and innovative classroom environment for the teaching and learning of French. As part of the Award, Arrow Vale's FLLA students visited Ipsley this week and taught a short lesson of French to groups of Year 8 students using laptops, worksheets, games and powerpoint and presented the Ipsley students with a certificate the end. The morning was a huge success to be repeated in the very near future at Churchill Middle School. Congratuations to all the leaders involved (if you don't know who they are look out for the FLLA badges on their ties or blazer).

The British National Trampolining Championships took place at Cocksmoor Woods Leisure Centre on Sunday March 9th. Rachael Elsegood in 13CB represented Arrow Vale in this competition and finished in a very creditable second place out of the top 9 performers in Great Britain. Rachael commented "I'm very pleased to have reached The Nationals but feel that I underperformed on the day. The whole event was really exciting and culminated in a closing ceremony like the Olympics".

She is currently in year 13 and competed in the U19 closed section of the competition. Rachael came 1st out of 19 competitors performing a routine with a maximum tariff of 2.0. She won with a winning score of 52.6 points and improved upon her score from last year.

As a result of her county success Rachael will go on to represent Arrow Vale in the Regional competition at Cocksmoor Woods Leisure Centre in December. She will be competing against other schools from the West Midlands where she hopes to continue her good form.

Quote from Rachael
"I was really pleased with my performance in the competition. I am training hard and focusing on my goal of qualifying for the zonal championships next year".

JFO is a course which helps people who want to get into the coaching side of football. It helps develop knowledge and understanding of the game and how to teach basic skills to less experienced players.

Over the course of two days I really enjoyed everything we did. Coaching is something I've always looked to do when I'm older as I have always been interested in every aspect of football, so this course was the right one for me. As I am quite a quiet person this course along with the help from the coach and fellow students has helped me become more confident and to take me out of my comfort zone.

After asking other students who also took part what they enjoyed most they all replied with "everything!". We learnt new things but it was presented to us in a fun and non-boring way. The activity that I enjoyed the most was planning my own session with a partner and together presenting it to the rest of the group to do and give us feedback on. We chose to do a penalty shoot out which was a fun way to practice shooting and it appeals to all ages. After each player had taken a few shots we than adapted to the skill level of the player for example if it was to easy they had to shoot with their weaker foot.

The FA books that we were given were very useful because they had basic activities, which we then adapted to make them our own and present them to the rest of the group.

This course is a starting point for my coaching. After doing this course I feel confident to push myself on to take part in more coaching courses. I can now help out with coaching at a football club for 6-11 year olds, which I will start very soon. This course has helped me a lot, so when given the chance to do a similar course at a higher level I will definitely consider it. If you are interested in football coaching I would advise this course as it can lead you on to a lot more courses in the future.
